Emergency Assistance

Many of the folks needing help from Heart and Hand come to us in a crisis situation. Frequently unexpected circumstances like the loss of a job or a sick parent throw a family with limited resources into a crisis. Heart and Hand’s Emergency Service programs are designed to help families who find themselves without a safety net when unplanned events become more than they can handle.

Our programs help with many needs. If a family has lost their house to a fire we provide free clothing, linens, dishes, etc. through our thrift store. In some situations we may use FEMA funds to provide the first month’s rent to help them get settled quickly into a new place.

Other emergencies may require help with an eye exam, medical supplies, or prescriptions. As heating costs rise we frequently help by paying a month of a utility bill if the gas or electric is in danger of being shut off.

Our office serves as a catch all for many crisis situations. Our staff work closely with Human Services and other agencies. We receive many referrals from the community and in turn try to link recipients with other resources when we cannot meet their needs.
